UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Yemen’s Houthis have carried out several drone attacks on Abha airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia, Al-Masirah television reported on Tuesday.
There was no mention of the attack in Saudi state media and Saudi officials were not immediately available for comment.
The Houthis, who control the capital Sanaa and most of its densely populated areas, have stepped up attacks on targets in Saudi Arabia in recent months. In contrast, a Saudi-led military coalition fighting the Houthis has targeted Houthi military positions, particularly around the Sanaa area.
The attacks are complicated by UN-led peace efforts.
The Western-backed coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates intervened in Yemen in 2015 to try to bring back the government that the Houthis ousted from power in Sanaa.
The war has killed tens of thousands and pushed millions to the brink of starvation.
Last week, violence in the southern port city of Aden flared up between government troops stationed there and southern separatists fighting alongside the Houthis.
