UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Hong Kong’s airport authority canceled all scheduled flights on Monday, as thousands demonstrated at the airport for the fourth consecutive day.
“All scheduled flights for the day have been canceled,” it said in a statement.
The Authority pointed out that traffic on the roads leading to the airport is very busy, because of the demonstrations.
The Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office in China said Hong Kong was now at a “critical stage” after two months of anti-government protests, adding that violence there must stop.
Hong Kong is plagued by its worst political crisis in decades, after two months of increasingly violent protests and posing the biggest challenge to Chinese President Xi Jinping since he took office in 2012.
The protests began in opposition to a bill to hand over people accused of criminal cases to China for trial, but have now developed into wider dissatisfaction with the city government and China’s central government.
