Head of the WTO urged Washington to fulfill its obligations

The head of the World Trade Organization, Robert Azevedo, on the eve of the 11th Ministerial Conference, asked the US to soften its position on important issues for WTO existence. Azevedo believes that Americans should “show flexibility and fulfill political obligations.”

After the election of President Donald Trump, the United States stopped promoting the development of the WTO.

The US administration does not say directly that the WTO is not needed, but they substitute the basic concepts of international trade for their own.

In particular, instead of “free trade” declare “fair trade”

“What we need is a collective effort to solve the problems that will arise, it always depends on the situation, I hope that the WTO members can together overcome the difficulties that this or that country will raise,” Azevedo said.
