UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The Libyan National Army, led by Marshal Khalifa Haftar, issued a statement on Saturday evening, in which the people of the Libyan capital Tripoli called for moving away from the places of concentration of forces loyal to the national reconciliation government.
In a statement published by the Military Information Division of the “National Army”, the General Command called on the people of the Libyan capital to “take caution and avoid as far as possible from the areas of clashes, and not to be near the sites and concentrations of militias, especially in the areas of Salah al-Din and the plateau.”
In early April, the Libyan National Army launched an offensive against Tripoli, the seat of the internationally recognized government of national accord. Hafter announced that the aim of the operation was to liberate the capital from “terrorist militias”, while calling for “reconciliation” forces loyal to them to repel “the aggression of the rebel.”
On Friday, the Libyan National Army announced that its air force had targeted a camp of foreign fighters in the city of Gharyan (south of Tripoli), confirming that a large number of people were killed and wounded by the shelling.
