The center of Athens is the scene on Monday of clashes between law enforcement and protesters who came to oppose the adoption of new laws. As the press explains, to contain a few hundred anarchists, the police used tear gas.
On Monday there were clashes between the police and protesters gathered in front of the Greek parliament, right in the center of Athens ; to disperse the crowd, the police used tear gas, reports the local news agency AMHA.
Several thousand protesters descended on Monday in the streets of the Greek capital to protest against the adoption of laws limiting including the right to strike. According to the media, some 300 anarchists unrelated to the announced protests are the cause of the unrest that has erupted.
According to the press, gathered in Sintagma Square, near the seat of parliament, they attacked the peacekeepers throwing stones and “Molotov cocktails”. Police responded with tear gas and stun grenades.
Smaller clashes took place on the other side of the square when members of the Popular Unity Party tried to climb the parliament stairs. Police also used tear gas, the agency said.
