The output of industrial gold miners rose to 49.6 tons in 2017, up 5 percent from a year earlier, a senior official in Mali’s mining ministry said on Wednesday.
Mali is the third largest gold producer in Africa after South Africa and Ghana, producing 46.9 tonnes in 2016.
Government estimates indicate that industrial mining accounts for only half of Mali’s gold production, with two individual producers producing around 50 tonnes a year.
