GERMANY – Among the refugees who arrived in Germany in 2015-2016, were terrorists, said acting head of the Interior of the Federal Republic of Germany Thomas de Maiziere. “There are refugees who have already radicalized here,” he added, speaking on Saturday at the Munich Security Conference.
However, de Maiziere acknowledged that it is impossible to suspect all refugees in a row. “But we need to abandon the notion that terrorism will soon be finally defeated.”
The German Interior Minister also said that as the “Islamic State” group was destroyed, more and more militants will return to Germany in Syria and Iraq. “We need to be adjusted to the fact that foreign militants will continue to return,” he said.
Speaking about anti-terrorist measures, de Maiziere put forward the opposition of radicalization to the first place. “It is very important to remove the prerequisites leading to this,” the minister stressed. As another important measure, he called “support for liberal Islam”.
