Germany: Creating a safe area in Syria is important to ensure security and stability

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — German Defense Minister Ingbert Krump Karenbauer stressed that the establishment of a safe area in Syria is important to ensure security and stability in the region.

This came in a press statement on the sidelines of her meeting with the Minister of Peshmerga Shoresh Ismail in the Kurdistan Regional Government in northern Iraq.

On the Turkish-American plan of action to establish a safe area in northern Syria, Karenbauer said, “Ensuring security and stability in Syria is important, and we are monitoring the situation in Syria carefully, and the planned operation will also affect the security situation in Iraq.”

The German minister said that her country provides training assistance to the Peshmerga forces fighting the “Islamic State” terrorist organization, stressing the continuation of German support in this regard.

On Tuesday, German Defense Minister arrived in Erbil in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq to meet with senior officials of the region and inspected her country’s military advisers who provide training and advice to the Peshmerga forces.

Germany is participating in the international coalition against “IS” so far with reconnaissance aircraft “Tornado”, and a plane to provide fuel and military trainers in Iraq.
