UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The European Union’s decision to give Britain a longer period of exit from the bloc shows European leaders are capable of finding a common solution, German Economy Minister Peter Altmeyer said on Friday.

“In the end, we stood together when it came to extending until the end of October and we cooperated very well with the British government,” he told public radio Deutschlandfunk.

He said he was optimistic that the exit scenario could be avoided without a future agreement, saying there was no indication of London’s readiness for an unorganized exit from the EU, but party discussions between British Prime Minister Theresa May and Labor for the first time were positive.
