German airline Lufthansa announces an immediate halt to flights to Cairo

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — German media reported that Lufthansa Airlines decided on Saturday to immediately stop all flights to Cairo for “security reasons.”

“Since safety is the highest priority for Lufthansa, the airline has temporarily stopped its flights to Cairo today until the situation is assessed,” ARD quoted the company as saying in a statement.

Details were not disclosed.

In a subsequent statement, German airline Lufthansa said it would resume flights from Munich and Frankfurt airports to Cairo on Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday, British Airways suspended all flights to Cairo for a week, pending completion of the matter.

British Airways did not disclose why it delayed flights to Cairo.
