Gunmen suspected of belonging to the Boko Haram group killed at least four soldiers and a civilian in an attack on a military post in the southeastern region of Deva, local officials and security sources said on Thursday.

The attack took place on Wednesday evening in the village of Tumur near Lake Chad and the border with Nigeria, an area that has seen repeated attacks by the militant group, which has been seeking for an Islamic caliphate in its main stronghold of Nigeria for eight years.

A hospital official said eight soldiers were wounded in the ambush, which security officials said bore the hallmarks of the Boko Haram group.

A security source said four soldiers were missing, adding that the authorities had also found the bodies of four suspected members of Bucco Haram at the scene of the attack.

A government spokesman was not immediately available for comment.
