Four “armed” Palestinians killed by Israeli soldiers at Gaza border

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The Israeli army killed four Palestinians armed with rifles and hand grenades on Saturday at the Gaza Strip border after one of them crossed into Israel, the army said.

“The patrols identified several terrorists approaching the fence in the southern Gaza Strip,” the army said in a statement. “The terrorists were equipped with AK-47 assault rifles, grenade launchers and grenades.”

The statement said four Palestinians were later “paralyzed.”

A military spokeswoman contacted by AFP said the four Palestinians were “killed.”

“The army opened fire after one of the terrorists climbed the fence and threw a grenade at the soldiers,” she said.

There have been weekly demonstrations since March 2018 along the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel to demand the lifting of the Israeli blockade imposed more than a decade ago and the right of return of refugees.

These “marches of return” include clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces near the heavily guarded separation fence from the army.

Since then, at least 301 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire, mostly in clashes in demonstrations, and others in Israeli strikes in retaliation for operations from the Gaza Strip.

Seven Israelis were killed in the violence.

The size of the marches has diminished in recent months after a truce between Israel and Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, is sponsored by Egypt and the United Nations.

Israel and Palestinian factions in Gaza have fought three wars since 2008.

Saturday’s incidents came as Israeli security forces continued a search operation in the occupied West Bank after the body of a soldier who was stabbed to death was found near the Migdal Oz settlement between Hebron and Bethlehem.
