Former WikiLeaks informant, transgender Chelsea Manning has applied to participate in the elections to the US Senate from the state of Maryland, writes the Washington Post on Saturday; The website of the US Federal Electoral Commission confirms receipt of the application from it.

Manning wants to move forward from the Democratic Party and will try to take away the Senate chair from Ben Cardin, who in November is going to be reelected for a third term.

Manning moved to Maryland after being released from prison, where she stayed for seven years. Former US President Barack Obama pardoned her in 2017, although a former US intelligence officer in Iraq, who handed over hundreds of thousands of secret documents to WikiLeaks, was sentenced to 35 years in prison.

In the prison, Manning underwent hormonal therapy and changed the floor, changing her name from Bradley to Chelsea Elizabeth.
