UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) – A security breach on Facebook has allowed hackers to compromise the personal data of approximately 29 million users, including email address and / or phone number. Here’s how to find out if your account has been affected.

Facebook announced on Friday (October 12th) that the security breach discovered in September had allowed hackers to compromise the personal data of some 29 million people. In September, the network first mentioned the figure of 50 million accounts.

Want to know if you are among these accounts? To find out, says the MIT Technology Review, check on the help center of Facebook if your data is affected by this latest breach. A note on a blue background indicates in English at the end of the post if your data has been compromised or not.

The portal points out that even though for the moment Facebook claims that its other services, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp, have not been affected, “this highlights above all the fact that this risk exists”. It is for this reason – the growing integration of data between different systems – that the founders of several applications have left Facebook this year.

According to a statement released by Facebook on Friday, 15 million people had their names and personal contacts compromised, while additional details were also compromised for 14 million other users.

For all assigned accounts, hackers accessed the person’s name, e-mail address, and / or phone number in their profile.

In the other 14 million cases, hackers were also able to access sex, status indicating marital status and educational level, as well as date of birth, place of residence, employment and the web pages accessed by the users concerned.
