UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Seven people were killed and five others injured in an explosion on Sunday in front of an electronic components factory in east China, local authorities said.
The accident took place when a container was used to pile up metal debris outside the plant in Kunshan, Jiangsu province, the provincial government said on the social network Wichts.
“The investigation is under way to find out the cause of the accident outside the Kunshan Wafer Technology Corporation,” the statement said.
The incident occurred a week after an explosion at a chemical plant in Yangxing in the same province, which killed 78 people, in what counted as one of the worst industrial disasters in China in recent years.
The government ordered the regional authorities Monday to open “full investigations” into the institutions that manufacture or store components used in “nitrate” processes, one of the most common and dangerous chemical processes in industrial chemistry.
