UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Based on research from Russian science centers, the European Space Agency has published data revealing the position of US satellites placed in geostationary orbit. These were intended to collect information on space objects.
US spy satellite positions were revealed in a European Space Agency document , which was based on Russian data.
This paper gives an overview of the position of objects located in geostationary orbit (the circular orbit located at 35.786 km altitude).
The census includes 1,638 objects, of which 529 are directed satellites and others are unusable spacecraft as well as orbital stages of out-of-service launchers.
Data on the orbital position of objects are provided by the international society Vimpel, the Institute of Applied Mathematics Keldysch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Center for Astronomical Research. The parameters of the orbits are not yet published by the United States Air Force.
In particular, the census focuses on the position of the US secret satellites GSSAP, Orion, Mercury and CLIO. According to various sources, the GSSAPs are intended to explore the geostationary orbit using electro-optical sensors to collect data on space objects while the Orion, Mercury and CLIO are designed for spying transmissions and interception of missile telemetry.
In the World Space Systems Report, published in April by the Secure World Foundation, it was reported that US military spy satellites GSSAP had been detected in geostationary orbit near the Russian and Chinese gears for inspection.
