UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The European Union will never recognize the sovereignty of Israel over a part of the territory of Syria – the Golan Heights, until an agreement is reached between Israelis and Palestinians on the settlement of the Middle East conflict, including the status of Jerusalem.

This was stated by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, speaking at a hearing in the European Parliament on foreign policy issues.

“With regard to the recognition by the US of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, the EU’s position is simple and clear: the European Union does not recognize and never recognize any of the territories occupied by Israel, and this also applies to the Golan Heights. our position on the Golan Heights in New York in a joint statement, “said Mogherini. She also condemned the policy of expanding Israeli settlements in the occupied territories in the West Bank.

“We consider this policy illegal and contrary to international norms. The EU believes that peace in the Middle East should be based on a peaceful solution to the conflict based on the principle of two states – Israel and Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital. Our strategic goal is to support this plan to create a two-nation solution and preserve the possibility of new negotiations between Israel and Palestine.”

According to Mogherini, the EU recognizes any changes in the borders of Israel after 1967 only if an agreement is reached between the parties on the basis of the principle of two states with the agreement on the status of Jerusalem.
