Erdogan: S-400 has nothing to do with NATO security

UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the television channel TRT said that Ankara’s Russian anti-aircraft missile systems S-400 are in no way connected with the security of the North Atlantic alliance.

“The S-400s we buy are in no way connected with the security of NATO, the USA or the F-35. The reasons for which we buy these systems are obvious,” Erdogan says.

Earlier, the US Department of Defense announced that Turkey would face “serious consequences” in relations with the American side if it purchases Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems.

Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that the deployment of Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems in Turkey will begin in October 2019.
