UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Egypt said on Friday the Syrian Golan Heights were occupied Arab land in a statement following remarks by US President Donald Trump in which he called for recognition of Israel’s sovereignty over the plateau it occupied in the 1967 Middle East war.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published by the official Middle East News Agency to UN Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981 “on the invalidity of the decision taken by Israel to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the occupied Syrian Golan.”

“The international community should respect the decisions of international legitimacy and the UN Charter in terms of the inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by force,” the ministry stressed.
