Egypt responds to British Airways’ decision to suspend its flights to Cairo

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — An official source in the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation announced that the British Embassy in Cairo confirmed that the decision to suspend flights to Cairo airport was not issued by the British Ministry of Transport or Foreign Affairs.

The source added that the information is being checked in coordination with the agent of the British company in Cairo.

For its part, the Ministry of Civil Aviation increased the “seat capacity” of Egypt Air flights to London and allocated a new Boeing 787 Dreamliner to operate an additional flight to Heathrow to facilitate passenger transport during the suspension period.

In turn, the President of the Cairo Air Port Company Ahmed Fawzi, that British Airways “British Airways” did not report to the Egyptian counterpart any observations on its part towards the safety and security rules at Cairo airport.

Fawzi stressed that “the decision of the British company to suspend flights to Cairo for 7 days is purely internal.”

British Airways announced in a statement that its flights to the Egyptian capital Cairo would be suspended for a week as a “precautionary measure” to allow a security assessment.

“We have been constantly reviewing our security arrangements at all airports (the airline’s aircraft) worldwide and we have stopped flights to Cairo for a week as a precautionary measure to allow for further assessment,” the British Airways statement said.
