Thousands of Democratic Party of Albania (PD) supporters, led by leader of the Albanian opposition Lulzim Basha, gathered in the centre of Tirana, Saturday, afternoon to protest against the ruling government and alleged corruption.
During the protest, opposition supporters set fire to three effigies of the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri, and Minister of Health Ilir Beqaj. More than 1,500 police officers were deployed to secure the protest.
The anti-government protests come four months before Albania’s parliamentary elections, set for June 18, 2017.
