Eco-Debt Day 2020 The Coronavirus Pandemic Will Not Help Us Repay Nature

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Each year, scientists from the Global Footprint Network calculate the eco-debt day. It is on this day that people use the last resources that nature has created over the year, and begin to spend its reserves. This year, the eco-debt day will come on August 22.

We can say that almost in the middle of the year there will be an overspending of resources: a person will begin to borrow them from the Earth and from descendants. To determine the day of the eco-debt, experts make a comparative analysis of human consumption and the speed of recovery of the planet. Obviously, the sooner this day comes, the more we owe nature.

It would seem that during quarantine, nature could rest. Positive changes were indeed observed in different parts of the world, but … After loosening quarantine to stimulate the economy, the authorities turned a blind eye to environmental requirements that had previously been put forward by enterprises. Relaxed environmental control leads to various accidents and disasters. A striking example is several events in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

According to Mikhail Babenko from WWF Russia’s Green Economy program, any measures to conserve nature should not be carried out involuntarily, but thoughtfully and gradually. You can lose extra pounds with the help of stress and poisoning, or you can exercise regularly in the gym. In the first case, the body will quickly weaken. It is the first option that reflects the real attitude of people towards nature. It is not necessary to produce a forced shutdown of production, but to introduce truly thought-out solutions that will reduce the burden on ecosystems. You also need to smoothly start giving up fuel and switch to alternative energy sources.

As a result of overconsumption of planet resources, desertification of territories, a decline in biodiversity, and soil depletion are observed. Some territories are no longer suitable for human life, as they do not bring the right crop for survival.
