NETHERLANDS – Dutch foreign minister resigns after admitting he lied about meeting Putin in 2006.
Dutch Foreign Minister Halbe Zailstra, who confessed to lying about meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, resigned. This is reported by the Reuters agency.
Earlier, Zailstra was in the middle of a scandal after confessing that for 12 years he had lied about his presence at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2006.
The diplomat said that in 2006, as an employee of the oil and gas company Shell at a meeting of the Russian head with representatives of international business, he heard from Putin about “Great Russia, parts of which should be Belarus, Ukraine and the Baltic countries.”
On February 14, the diplomat’s visit to Moscow was planned. Zaelstra was supposed to hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
