US stocks jumped on Wednesday, pushing the Dow Jones industrial average to close above 26,000 points for the first time ever, boosted by gains in various sectors sparked by investors’ expectations of higher corporate profits.
The Dow Jones ended the day’s trading session with a gain of 322.79 points, or 1.25 percent, to 26,115.65 points, while the broader S & P 500 index gained 26.14 points, or 0.94 percent, to close at 2,802.56.
The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 74.59 points, or 1.03 percent, at 7,298.28.
