Death toll for powerful earthquake struck Mexico has risen to 119. At least 119 people have been killed in a powerful 7.1-magnitude quake in Mexico, authorities say.
The count for the Tuesday quake was an initial toll, given as emergency crews and hundreds of volunteers were digging through the debris of collapsed buildings looking for survivors and bodies.
The quake comes just under two weeks after another killed some 100 people in Mexico’s southern coast.
Mexico is also dealing with the aftermath of a powerful hurricane, Katia, which made landfall in the state of Veracruz on the Mexican Gulf coast on Friday. The tropical storm rapidly weakened but local officials are worried that it could still cause landslides and flooding.
