UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The Damascus government issued the first official comment on reports of the intention of some European countries to send additional troops to northeastern Syria, replacing the US forces there.
Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad warned the Western countries of the consequences of the move, saying: “I assure those who are now considering sending new troops to Syria … they are wrong on the one hand, They sacrifice their forces and send them without any justification, in order to prevent the cessation of bloodshed on Syrian territory.”
The Syrian diplomat wondered what would benefit these countries from sending their troops “only subject to the US administration and subject to the wishes of Israel,” urging them “not to continue to destroy Syria and to save the lives of soldiers and military.”
Meqdad also claimed that “some Arab parties” were responsible for “sending their delegates” to Syrian territory, including those controlled by the predominantly Kurdish and Western-backed “Syrian Democratic Forces”.
Western media have reported in recent days that Britain and France have agreed to send additional troops to north-east Syria to fill the vacuum caused by the United States to reduce its military presence there, while Germany has rejected the US request.
