UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The Dalai Lama is fine after being admitted to a hospital in New Delhi for a chest infection as social media users spread their calls to the Buddhist monk to recover quickly, an aide to spiritual leader Dalai Lama said on Wednesday.
The 83-year-old Dalai Lama, who fled to India in early 1959 after a failed uprising against Chinese rule, lives in the northern Indian town of Dharamsala.
His private secretary said the Dalai Lama was taken to hospital on Tuesday after he complained of fatigue and doctors diagnosed his condition as an infection in the chest, adding that he would spend a few days in hospital.
A hospital official declined to comment on his condition, saying what was needed to maintain the patient’s privacy.
Many supporters of the Dalai Lama have sent messages to social media outlets that wish him speedy recovery.
“We are concerned about his hospitalization … the world needs him,” said the prime minister of the eastern Indian state of Odisha.
About 100,000 Tibetans live in India and many worry that their fight for an independent homeland will end if the Dalai Lama is absent.
