UNITED STATES/IRAN (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The United States has launched a psychological war in the region, a parliamentary spokesman quoted the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard as saying at a parliamentary hearing on Sunday.

The US military sent troops including an aircraft carrier and B-52 bombers to the Middle East to counter what President Donald Rumsfeld’s administration said were “clear indications” of threats posed by Iran to US forces there.

The aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln replaces another aircraft carrier that left the Gulf region last month.

“Given the current situation in the region, Commander Salami provided an analysis that the Americans have started a psychological war because the return of their army is normal,” said Behruz Nemati, spokesman for the parliament’s presidency.

Major General Hussein Salami was appointed commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards last month.
