China is developing a “microwave weapon” against terrorists

UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The Beijing Institute of Radio Measurements at the Chinese Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC) is developing a new military technology based on the principle of microwave radar stations.

As reported by the Global Times newspaper on Friday, the authorities plan to use this development in the fight against terrorism and while protecting state borders.

This development, as the newspaper notes, should not be considered as a weapon of mass destruction. Officially, the project is called “Microwave Active Restraint System”.

Installation neutralizes the “target”, paralyzing the nerves of the skin and causing the enemy soreness. Thus, terrorists or other intruders are deprived of the opportunity to take active steps.

Local media have published on the Internet photos of new weapons, the appearance of which is not much different from the city service minibus.

According to the developers, they managed to create two types of equipment – one capable of incapacitating individuals, the other – whole groups.

“The microwave weapon”, as the newspaper writes, passes testing under control of several competent departments and services. Despite the fact that the process and results of these tests are classified, it is already known that the main equipment of the installation is lightweight, rather compact, and therefore suitable for performing the widest range of operations to contain and eliminate the enemy.

In recent years, the Chinese government has stepped up the anti-terrorism struggle, strengthening security measures at strategically important facilities and public transport. Special attention is paid to the methods of preventing terrorist acts at the planning stage.

At the same time, means are being developed to combat terrorists and members of extremist groups. For example, in 2017, the Chinese company Hongfeng (“Hongfeng”) created a special laser weapon capable of hitting targets from a distance of 200 meters.

The laser was first demonstrated by the Chinese Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation at anti-terrorism exercises conducted by Chinese special forces in the central Hubei province.
