UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Britain on Monday proposed new Internet safety laws that would impose sanctions on social networking and technology companies if it failed to protect its users from malicious content.
The ease of access to harmful substances, especially among young people, has led to growing concern around the world and increased interest in Britain after the suicide of a 14-year-old student whose parents said she committed suicide after she saw online articles on depression and suicide.
Governments around the world are looking for the best ways to control the content of social networking platforms that are often blamed for promoting abuses, the spread of nudity over the Internet, and influencing or manipulating voters.
