UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The UK has prepared a draft resolution of the UN Security Council, which primarily calls on the parties to the conflict in Libya to immediately cease fire, the document is available to RIA.
“(The UN Security Council), having determined that the situation in Libya continues to pose a threat to international peace and security … requires all parties in Libya to immediately de-escalate the situation, (demands) to observe the cease-fire and cooperate with the UN to ensure a complete and comprehensive cessation military action throughout Libya,” says the draft document.
In addition, the authors of the draft resolution invite all parties to the conflict to “immediately reaffirm their commitment to political dialogue with UN assistance, reiterate their full support for the efforts of Special Representative Secretary General Gassan Salam and work towards a comprehensive political settlement of the crisis.”
In addition, the United Kingdom separately emphasizes the need for “unconditional access of victims to humanitarian assistance.”
Marshal of the Libyan National Army, Khalifa Haftar, on April 4 ordered his forces to launch an offensive on Tripoli to “liberate themselves from terrorists.” The units of the army of Haftar established control over the cities of Garyan and Surman to the south of the Libyan capital. Also, the operational headquarters of the Government of National Accord (PNS), Fayez Sarraj, reported that the military aircraft of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Haftar attacked the only existing airport of the Libyan capital Tripoli Mitiga, as a result all flights were canceled. Armed forces loyal to the government of Libya announced April 7 the start of the military operation “Vulcan of Wrath” against the LNA.
