UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — At least 30 people died as a result of the crash and flooding of a vessel carrying people on one of the lakes located in the western region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
A few hundred more are considered missing. This was reported on Sunday by the Associated Press (AP), citing a statement by a representative of local authorities.
As the mayor of the city, Inongo Simon Vemba, pointed out, “the boat with passengers turned over and went down on the lake Mai-Ndombe”.
According to him, many of those on board were teachers from local schools, who went across the lake to the district center for salaries. ”About 200 people remain missing.
The authorities are still unable to determine the exact number of passengers who were on board the ship at the time of the crash. It’s about “a few hundred people.” It is known that more than 80 passengers managed to escape.
