Black hole looks like the “gates of hell” – scientist

UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The black hole, which for the first time in history was able to capture on the photo, looks like the “gates of hell”, said on Wednesday at a press conference the scientific consultant of the Event Horizon Telescope project Heino Falcke.

At the press conference, scientists of the international project Event Horizon Telescope presented the first ever photo of the black hole shadow.

“It seems that you are looking at the gates of hell, at the end of space and time, at the point of no return,” said Falcke.

According to him, this feeling arises from the fact that the image captures an area that due to strong gravity cannot even leave light.

Falcke noted that the black hole that we managed to photograph was huge – about 100 billion kilometers in diameter, and its mass is about 6.5 billion solar masses.

As an employee of the Event Horizon Telescope information processing department, Monika Moschybrodska, added, the image is a non-ideal ring – in its lower part the light density is higher.

This is due to the rotation of either a hole, or matter around it, or both. Scientists have not yet figured out exactly what.
