UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — More than 60 people were arrested in Belgium, Holland and France on charges of drug trafficking and organizing illegal migration, the Italian Department for the fight against the mafia said on Saturday.
“A dangerous Albanian criminal gang” operated throughout Europe, the agency said. More than 600 police officers from four countries, including Italy, participated in the simultaneous operation, which were supported by their colleagues from Europol in that “it concerns the analysis of data obtained during the search”. The final part of the operation took place from 3 to 5 April.
Among the 61 arrested were 8 Italian citizens who lived in Belgium.
The Italian Anti-Mafia Administration supported the investigation through a common operational network – a project of cooperation between various European police forces.
In particular, during the investigation, the Italian side discovered and organized the arrest of the fugitive offender of Albanian origin, against whom a European arrest warrant issued by the Bologna court acted.
