A Belgian military source said two Belgian F-16 fighter jets accompanied two Russian bombers on Monday morning over the waters of the North Sea. This was reported by Sputnik.
“The two Belgian planes were probably close to the Tupolev Tu-160 launchers,” the Belgian daily Le Soir quoted the source as saying, without giving further details.
Since last week, Belgium has been maintaining the security of Benelux airspace – Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg – supported by the Dutch Air Force.
A spokesman for the British Ministry of Defense also mentioned that two Typhoon planes took off today from Scotland to intercept Russian planes approaching British airspace.
For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense has repeatedly declared that its flights are in full compliance with all rules of airspace over international waters without violating the airspace of other States.
