Syrian Democratic Forces send 1,700 troops to Afrin

SYRIA (VOP TODAY NEWS) – In reference to the intensification of attacks by the Turkish army in Afrin, in violation of the UN Security Council resolution, Syrian Kurdish officials have urged residents and the government of Iraqi Kurdistan to come to the aid of the wounded and to civilians in Afrin.

Afrin District Executive Council Chairman Hifi Mustafa said that as the Turkish army continued to strike, the humanitarian situation was getting worse day by day in the Syrian enclave of Afrin.

“The hospitals in the city can not meet the medical needs of the people and the wounded. We are in a real shortage of medicines and that is why we are asking Iraqi Kurdistan and civilians in this region to help us,” he said.

The Syrian Kurdish leader then dwelt on the international community’s stand against the Turkish army’s offensive in Afrin and added: “The Turkish army’s attacks on Afrin contradict the UN resolution calling for an end to the fighting. for a period of one month. Although the Ankara government does not respect the resolution, however, the international community observes a silence and does not react.”

These statements came after the Turkish army and Takfirist mercenaries in Ankara greatly intensified their attacks on Afrin.

In response, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Tuesday night that they had decided to withdraw a number of their forces from the eastern Euphrates to send them to Afrin.

An SDF commander pointed out that Afin needed reinforcements and that it was necessary for Kurdish troops to be transferred from the east of the Euphrates to Afrin.

Simultaneously, the Syrian Democratic Forces, whose Kurdish militia are the backbone, stopped fighting with Daesh at Deir ez-Zor and sent their elements to Afrin.

In reference to the dispatch of 1,700 Kurdish troops, some Kurdish authorities in Syria reiterated that they would soon change their tactics in the battle against the Turkish army and its affiliated terrorists.

Unofficial sources in Afrin have announced that the sending of Kurdish reinforcements to Afrin aims to open new fronts against the Turkish army in order to lower the intensity of attacks on Afrin.
