Mexico allowed women and children from the migrant caravan to cross its border

UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) – The Mexican authorities have announced that they are opening their frontier to women and children from the migrant caravan, which is moving in an organized way towards the southern Mexican border.

This was reported on Saturday by AFP with reference to the ambassador of Mexico in Guatemala, Luis Manuel Lopez.

According to him, women and children who are allowed to cross the border will be registered with Mexican migration services, and then taken to accommodation centers.

Earlier on Friday, six Mexican police were reported injured while trying to contain a caravan of migrants from Honduras on the border of Guatemala and Mexico.

About 50 people were able to break through the gates on the border bridge between the countries before the police began to use tear gas, and the rest were forced to retreat. Later, information was received about nine more injured during clashes on the Guatemalan-Honduras border.

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump informed the authorities of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador that he would stop providing financial assistance to these countries if measures are not taken to restrict illegal migration to the US through the territory of these states.

On October 16, the Honduran Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on its residents not to participate in immigration caravans that head towards Mexico and the United States.
