Albania is on the verge of spreading the flu virus after the country’s hospitals reported some 11,000 patients affected by respiratory and flu infections in a week, the Public Health Institute warned on Monday.

“The virus affects children and the elderly mainly,” Artan Simako, an institute expert, told reporters.

He called for more care for children, pregnant women and elderly people with chronic diseases and vulnerable people.

Health experts urged citizens to get the flu vaccine to protect against a number of viruses.
