Over 30 people were killed and injured in an attack on a hotel in Kabul

When militants attacked the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul, 35 people were killed and injured, local TV channel 1TV reported citing a source in the security forces.

The exact number of casualties and injuries is not yet known. It is reported that one of the attackers was liquidated. The second floor of the hotel is engulfed in flames.

As previously reported, the militants took several people hostage. According to various sources, the attackers were three or four, they put on their suicide belts.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country confirmed the fact of the attack.

The police cordoned off the area around the building, security officials entered into a shootout with militants.

As a representative of the Afghan Interior Ministry told Tolo television, at least three other fighters remain in the hotel building. The security services managed to withdraw several guests and hotel employees from there, now they are in a safe place. Local residents reported that they heard several explosions.

The hotel Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul is not the first time being attacked by militants. In June 2011, nine attackers broke into the hotel building, 12 people became victims of the attack. All the militants were liquidated during the special operation.
