More than 25 people, including women and children, were killed in air strikes on the city of Al-Mayadin and its environs in the Syrian province of Deir Ezzor on Thursday, reported to journalists on Friday by the official representative of the UN Secretary-General Stephan Dujarrik.
According to him, the UN humanitarian agencies are “deeply concerned about the consequences of the ongoing clashes in the province of Deir Ezzor.”
“Yesterday, air strikes on Mayadin and the surrounding area killed more than 25 people and caused injuries to many others, many of them women and children,” said Dujarrik.
He said that since August, more than 350,000 people have left the battlefield of Deir Ezzor.
The humanitarian situation in this region remains serious, the UN regularly delivers humanitarian aid there. According to the representative of the secretary general, the humanitarian convoy was last brought to the province on 30 October.
According to Dujarrik, the UN calls on the parties to the conflict in Syria “to take all possible measures to protect the public”, and to promote the safe and uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to all needy residents of the country.
