A total of 17 militants loyal to the Islamic state organization were killed, with security forces targeting extremist militant positions in the Haska Mina and Achin regions of Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan on Sunday, an official said on Sunday.

On the basis of an intelligence report, the security forces launched attacks in parts of the Haska Mina and Achin regions last night, destroying trenches and weapons stores and killing 17 rebels, said Attaullah Khogyani, a provincial administration spokesman.

The Islamic State Organization, which intensifies its subversive activities and implements most of them in the form of deadly suicide attacks, has not commented on the report so far.
