13 killed and 2 missing in boat accident in South Korea

The death toll from Sunday’s boat accident off South Korea’s Incheon coast rose to 13, the South Korean coast guard said.

Two people were still missing as of 1 pm (0400 GMT), the Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard said earlier that seven people were killed when a South Korean fishing vessel chartered a ship and drowned, adding that two people were missing.

According to local media, the 9.77-tonne vessel, carrying a crew of two and 20 passengers, crashed into a 336-ton tanker in waters near Yeongheong Island, west of Seoul, at about 06:12 am (local time) On Sunday morning.

South Korean authorities have mobilized four helicopters and 14 boats to carry out the rescue operation.
