UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) – Experts from the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, along with analysts from the Peace Research Institute of Oslo, compiled the Women, Peace and Security Index.
In their study, they analyzed the situation in 153 countries around the world in terms of how well or badly women live there.
Based on these studies, they compiled a ranking of countries on the standard of living of women.
Among the factors that affect the life of a woman, such as justice, security, inclusion and many others have been indicated.
Below are the 10 worst countries for women.
10. Niger
Only 17% of women aged 15 to 24 years in this country are literate according to ONE campaign data, aimed at eradicating poverty and preventing the spread of diseases.
In addition, according to the 2016 Save the Children report, which listed the worst and best countries for girls on the basis of five indicators (including early marriage, adolescent fertility and others), 76% of girls in Niger marry before they will be 18 years old, and every fifth girl gives birth to a child every year.
That is why Niger took the last, 144th place in this rating.
9. Sudan
According to UNICEF, 34% of women aged 15-49 in the Sudan believe that the husband has the right to beat his wife under certain circumstances.
34% of women between the ages of 20 and 24 were married before they turned 18.
8. Mali
According to ONE, less than half (38%) of girls in Mali finish primary school.
Only 9% of women hold positions in parliament (compared to Rwanda, where this figure reaches 64%).
72% of the country’s population lives on less than $ 2 a day.
7. Iraq
According to a 2010 UN survey, every fifth Iraqi woman was a victim of domestic violence.
In 2012, a study by the Ministry of Planning revealed that at least 36% of Iraqi married women were victims of violence by their husbands.
6. Democratic Republic of the Congo
Congo has the potential to become one of the richest countries in Africa, as the country has huge reserves of natural resources.
Nevertheless, this country remains one of the least developed.
At the same time, at least 7.5 million people live in poverty and need humanitarian assistance.
5. CARs
The Central African Republic has been involved in the armed conflict since 2013.
Therefore, cases of violence against women are frequent in the country, according to the UN.
4. Pakistan
Violence against women and girls remains one of the main problems of Pakistan.
Here, marriage of children, murders and much more is practiced.
3. Yemen
According to the UN Population Fund, some 26 million girls and women in Yemen are at risk of violence.
52 thousand women are at risk of encountering rape.
According to the World Report 2017, women in Yemen have no rights to divorce, inheritance or custody of children.
2. Afghanistan
According to the report of Human Right’s Watch, only 37% of Afghan women are literate.
One third of girls are married before they turn 18.
The country has a very high mortality rate of mothers at birth, and women’s civil rights are severely limited.
1. The Syrian Arab Republic
Since March 2011, Syria has been involved in one of the most bloody military conflicts of our time.
After him came the humanitarian crisis. Torture, violence, poor nutrition – all this has become a daily reality for the population of this country.
